Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer to join our worldwide support team in Brisbane, Australia. In this role, you will work as part of the Support Engineering team, which is responsible for supporting our large enterprise customer base with expert advice on developing, managing, and scaling mission-critical applications built with Apache ActiveMQ, Apache ServiceMix, Apache Camel, Apache CXF, Apache Karaf, and Apache ZooKeeper, along with newer cloud-based offerings like Red Hat OpenShift and hosted integration services. You will get to work with a team of excellent engineers and a broad range of technologies, contributing to a vibrant community while ensuring the success of our customers.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Give well-researched, accurate, and prompt responses to developer-level technical issues to our customers

  • Collaborate with many of the committers on select Apache projects

  • Apply your familiarity and experience with at least one of the technologies that make up our Red Hat Fuse and messaging offerings

  • Efficiently develop test cases, software patches, and examples as required to resolve customer issues

  • Share your knowledge with our customers and internal teams by applying your developer-level experience analyzing and debugging Java or C++ application issues at the language level (code development, code review, stack traces, etc.)

  • Focus on the details, take ownership of issues, and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Analyze and reproduce problems, perform troubleshooting, and quickly learn new technologies and customer environments

Required skills

  • Expert knowledge of Apache technologies

  • Experience working on large-scale enterprise Java projects

  • Basic knowledge of Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS) API, or other cloud technologies

  • Passionate about boosting your skill set in the open source Enterprise Java and cloud technology spaces

  • Genuine customer focus and understanding that their success is your success

  • Enjoying learning new things and passing knowledge on to others

  • Ability to apply your skills and knowledge to craft solutions to complex customer problems

  • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities

  • Broad and deep knowledge of enterprise integration technologies and good working knowledge of commonly used UNIX platforms; direct experience with all of the technologies our offerings use is a plus
