Job summary

The Red Hat North America (NA) Consulting team is looking for a Consulting Resource Manager to join us in Chicago, IL. In this role, you will help lead and manage project staffing in our commercial regions. You’ll develop a working knowledge of Red Hat’s solutions and Red Hat’s consulting offerings. You'll work within a team of resource managers, each having direct responsibility for approximately 200 consultants and partners of various technology focuses and experience. As a Consulting Resource Manager, you will ensure staffing for projects, serving as the point of contact for all consulting staffing requests into and out of assigned regions, ensuring proper alignment of resources to contracted requests.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Manage staffing requests by working with delivery managers, consultants and people managers, practice leads, and associates as well as the Resource Management Office (RMO) team to provide timely staffing plans

  • Manage escalations by working with territory managers and regional directors to solve staffing challenges; work with delivery management associates and customers to propose and implement resolution plans

  • Work with the channel partner ecosystem to subcontract work when needed

  • Track and ensure that all skill inventories are accurate and up-to-date for associate and contractor resources that are used on Red Hat’s projects

  • Work with consultants and people managers to ensure that consultants are maintaining development courses and that employees are meeting quarterly and annual training requirements

  • Work with consultants and people managers to ensure that utilization targets are met or exceeded for all consulting employees, regional teams, practices, and the NA Consulting team as a whole

  • Assist with forecasted utilization metrics, reporting on utilization actuals, and ensure that revenue is maximized by staffing requests in a timely manner while focusing on project-level KPIs for various associates and groups

  • Work within the RMO to provide capacity planning and all reporting in alignment with agreed upon timescales and highlight issues to the business based on this data

  • Keep all resource assignment information accurate and up-to-date in Oracle HRIS, consulting Professional Services Automation (PSA - FinancialForce) system, Salesforce.com (SFDC), and Oracle Project Accounting

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3-5 years of resourcing or staffing experience in a technical professional services environment

  • 2+ years of people management experience; ability to effectively manage in a matrixed environment

  • Excellent relationship management and persuasion skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to function on your own as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail and process-oriented with good strategic thinking skills

  • Knowledge of or ability to understand the technical consulting business and industry

  • Ability to work well within a team and provide and receive feedback in a constructive manner

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and a working knowledge of reporting

  • Ability to build consensus and adherence to new corporate practices in a matrixed management environment

  • Familiarity with professional services automation tools and any business intelligence (BI) platform; experience with FinancialForce is a plus
