Job summary

The Red Hat Diagnostic team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will build and maintain tools that help enable customers, partners, and support associates to resolve issues with Red Hat's solutions. You'll work closely with Red Hat's Engineering and other Product Management teams to ensure delivery of excellent and technically polished tools. This is a great opportunity to develop applications and refine existing code bases to help scale them across the complexities of deployment.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Develop new features for diagnostic and support processes available for Red Hat's customers and partners

  • Create and maintain tests and validations to support Red Hat's customers

  • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure and tooling for analytics and diagnostics

  • Participate in discussions with partners and stakeholders to understand requirements as user stories

  • Contribute to upstream projects while considering the certification vision and roadmap and how they align with downstream processes

  • Work on documentation and unit tests for tools that are part of certification

  • Collaborate with product managers on prioritizing workloads around release schedules

  • Work with other developers and Quality Engineering team using Agile methodology

Required skills

  • 3-5 years of related experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Fedora, CentOS, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  • Intermediate development and scripting abilities in Python, shell, or similar

  • Experience in developing applications using Python, Java and JEE

  • Experience working with SQL (MariaDB, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.) backends

  • Experience working on API-driven microservices and SOA or REST-based architecture

  • Experience working on message-driven architecture using JMS

  • Software development life cycle skills; ability to use standard tools for development on Linux like Git, Maven, and Docker

  • Experience with continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) systems like Jenkins

  • Great interpersonal skills with ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and operate in a high-pressure environment

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to participate in distributed communities and projects

  • Good troubleshooting skills

  • Motivated and able to learn and develop new technologies and skills

  • Ability to design programmes of work, to manage tasks, to mentor junior members of the team, and to deliver outstanding results

  • Familiarity with Apache Solr is an advantage

  • Upstream involvement with open source projects, including patches submitted and merged upstream, is a plus
