Job summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the KubeVirt project and join us in Ra'anana, Israel. In this role, you will design and implement network solutions for containers and virtual machines (VMs), contributing to industry-leading technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and possibly libvirt and QEMU. As a part of a geographically distributed team, you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat’s engineering teams and open source communities around the globe. You’ll need to be motivated, curious, have passion for problem solving, as well as prior experience with Linux technologies and open source software.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Play an active role in container and virtualization-related projects and communities like KubeVirt, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and possibly libvirt and QEMU

  • Create and guide new feature development; contribute to open source projects in Golang and Python

  • Integrate changes in multiple projects and services into a consumable feature

  • Submit patches for bug fixes to the community and review patches from other members

  • Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure projects are tested correctly

  • Publicize the work of your team through blogs, web postings, or conference talks

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience

  • 3+ years of experience in network design and configuration

  • Knowledge of network protocols and modern technologies such as network functions virtualization (NFV) and Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK)

  • 5+ years of experience in a Linux environment programming in either Golang, Python, Java, C, or C++ language

  • Experience in Linux system programming

  • Knowledge of multi-threaded programming and management of shared resources synchronization in complex environments

  • Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Familiarity with virtualization, clusters, and container-related technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), and Red Hat OpenStack is a plus

  • Open source development experience is a plus

  • Experience with Golang programming language is a plus
