The Red Hat Global Financial Planning and Analytics team is looking for a Business Data Scientist to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will turn data into valuable insights in support of our corporate strategic and operational planning with the opportunity and expectation to serve as a leader within the global finance team. In this role, you will develop and integrate planning models, explore and explain relationships between key drivers of the business, and create recommendations for improving business performance. You'll cooperate frequently with planning, forecasting, and analytics teams within the finance, sales, operations, marketing, products and technology (PnT), and IT departments. Your success will depend on your ability to collaborate with and gain an agreement among your stakeholders based on your recommendations.
Primary job responsibilities
Create planning and forecast models that incorporate key drivers of the business
Understand, update, and integrate existing planning models
Develop analytical tools and data offerings using data mining, machine learning (ML), and statistical techniques
Explore, explain, and predict how key drivers affect overall business performance by analyzing large amounts of data
Develop recommendations and scalable tools for improving business performance
Communicate findings to senior management, peers, and colleagues in verbal, visual, and written form
Provide analytical support and consultation for key sales, finance, and business leadership teams
Assist with ad hoc reporting and analytics requests
Consult on data capture and data cleanliness issues across systems and processes
Contribute to cross-functional analytics projects from beginning to end, building relationships with partner teams
Assist in aligning implementation priorities among global and regional leadership
Work closely with offshore shared services team in India to design and develop planning data, tools, and infrastructure and facilitate the development of reporting and insights
Engage in data transformation activities to ensure data quality for management reporting; create transition plan for these responsibilities to shared services data teams
Identify and implement improvements in the planning process in collaboration with the Finance Transformation, Process Excellence, and IT teams to build a next-generation planning process
Master's degree or equivalent work experience in data science, analytics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or another quantitative field
Experience or coursework in business or finance
Ability to apply statistical and predictive modeling techniques to provide targeted and actionable insights to the business
Experience with data analysis using Python or R programming languages
Experience using SQL to extract and cleanse large datasets from relational databases and data warehousing systems like SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift, Oracle, MySQL, etc.
Organized and detail-oriented
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal, team collaboration, and communication skills
Ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple priorities
Experience delivering presentations with a focus on detail and design
