Job summary

Develop and implement a dynamic and multifaceted technology PR program. Red Hat’s Marketing team is looking for a Marketing Communications Specialist to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will build and lead ongoing communications initiatives to showcase Red Hat’s innovation and customer success. You’ll need to have a successful record of implementing powerful communications programs for technology companies, demonstrate excellent storytelling, media relations, and writing and editing skills, and be comfortable engaging with and managing executive stakeholders. As a Marketing Communications Specialist, you will also need to have a broad range of skills, including the ability to manage successful communications programs, work well with senior executives and a wide range of internal teams, handle multiple priorities regarding concurrent projects, and build solid relationships with key technology media influencers.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Guide measurable PR programs to maximize awareness for Red Hat, including proactive media outreach, thought leadership platforms, contributed content, global launches of offerings, and ongoing media outreach

  • Write and edit clear and impactful press releases, blog posts, pitches, PR plans, award submissions, and related materials

  • Work with Red Hat’s executives, business teams, and the company’s international PR team and PR agencies to socialize, guide alignment, and implement communications programs

  • Develop and refine external messaging and positioning that is clear and compelling

  • Create new PR programs and processes to continue evolving and scaling communication activities

  • Build compelling stories with relevant Red Hat messaging and news; identify industry and vertical trends to build relevant story angles and pitches

  • Build and manage relationships with media

  • Support Red Hat’s international PR team by directing strategy and messaging on key initiatives and launches

  • Review and edit global press materials for consistent messaging and writing style regarding our offerings, including the facilitation of reviews and approvals within various internal teams, including product, corporate communications, and legal teams

  • Work closely with Red Hat’s corporate social media manager to amplify messages and build voices across Red Hat’s social media channels

  • Partner with Red Hat’s Customer Reference team to create compelling and interesting stories with some of our leading customers

  • Contribute to Red Hat’s larger Corporate Marketing team in support of various initiatives

Required skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in PR or communications

  • Experience in B2B technology PR

  • Experience pitching proactive stories to technology and business publications and managing media relationships

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, and speaking; ability to communicate simply and effectively

  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment

  • Proactive and highly responsive

  • Motivated and detail-oriented with the ability to thrive and handle multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, collaboration, and project management skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with executives and teams across the company

  • Ability to work as part of a team; flexible attitude and the willingness to contribute as part of a small, dynamic team

  • Proven ability to pick up new tools and concepts quickly

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a related field is a plus
