The Red Hat OpenShift Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is looking for a candidate with deep Linux experience to join us as a Principal Software Engineer in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will serve as a security lead, overseeing the security of our offerings and hosted properties related to Red Hat OpenShift Online, Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated, and other cloud operations. Red Hat OpenShift is Enterprise Kubernetes. With over 1.6 million applications created and over 200% year over year application growth, it will be your top priority to keep the environment available and secure in collaboration with the OpenShift SRE team. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will track, adapt, create, and teach best practices in cloud security, including system security, cryptography, incident response, and policy. This is a technical leadership role that requires a great deal of thought regarding automation and response.
Primary job responsibilities
Identify terms of service and other violations in the environment using automated tools
Oversee and coordinate security incidents and appropriate responses
Work with internal Red Hat information and security response teams
Coordinate with our site reliability engineers for ongoing takedowns and threat mitigation
Identify standards and ensure compliance with those standards
Plan for a rapidly changing environment
Work under occasional extended, sometimes high-pressure situations with an expanding global team
Troubleshoot and fix problems quickly, sometimes with only a small portion of data available
Take defensive and proactive measures to any ongoing threats
Occasionally work with high-value customers who have questions about best practices
Serve as the main point of contact regarding security of Red Hat OpenShift and help make it the best possible solution for hosting applications in the cloud
Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience working with Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Working knowledge of computer programming in several languages like C, Java, Ruby, or Go
Motivated with an ability to take ownership of the Red Hat OpenShift security domain
Excellent time management skills; ability to balance long-term projects with emergency work
Expert-level troubleshooting and investigation abilities
Experience with intrusion detection systems (IDSs) or detection tools like Snort, psad, ClamAV, or OpenSCAP
Red Hat Certified Administrator (RHCA) certification or equivalent is a plus
Experience with SELinux a plus
