Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) Engineering team is looking for a highly skilled engineer to join us as a Software Engineering Intern in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will help us maintain enterprise-level standards while developing complex infrastructure and providing support to a large community of developers and quality engineers. You’ll need to be both creative and motivated, good in building web applications, and able to work in a fast-paced, distributed environment. This is a great opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest engineers in the open source industry.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Work with UX designers to bring UI designs from concept to implementation through rapid prototyping and evaluation of design ideas

  • Work with the development teams to gather information about system APIs and help shape the data that is available for UI consumption

  • Implement UIs with clean, responsive, and accessible HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as needed to support the design vision

  • Work closely with designers during brainstorming, design reviews, and iteration of UI improvement

  • Advocate code reviews and best practices in the UI technologies

Required skills

  • University or college student in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, or physics, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with

  • 2+ years of studies remaining before graduation

  • Good understanding of web standards and semantic HTML

  • Basic understanding of JavaScript and any JavaScript framework like React.js or AngularJS

  • Knowledge of HTTP communications

  • Keen observation skills and attention to detail

  • Motivated with the ability to take direction and work well as part of a team

  • Interest in learning new technologies; problem-solving skills

  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Familiarity with build tools and continuous integration (CI) systems like Jenkins is a plus

  • Familiarity with source code control tools like Git and GitHub is a plus
