Job summary

The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for a Senior Architect to join us in China. In this role, you will use our unique middleware applications capabilities for Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), DevOps, continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD), and cloud-based development consulting projects. You’ll play a key role in our customers' evolution in enterprise development and in making our solutions practical and workable for their businesses. You’ll be focused primarily on architectural project support and delivery in pre­sales and post­-sales efforts, typically in the conceptual approach, design, and early implementation stages with a focus on solving complex technical problems, and you’ll expand your core base of expertise. As a Senior Architect, you will work together with the account team, customers, and consultants to ensure that their architectural visions are communicated and delivered effectively.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Guide the on-site implementation of technologies like Red Hat Middleware, Red Hat OpenShift, and Red Hat 3scale API Management

  • Gain understanding of customer infrastructures and application and business needs, make recommendations to resolve issues, and help customers make strategic decisions

  • Build enterprise applications and capabilities around cloud technologies to streamline development and enable continuous feature release of applications

  • Work with both nontechnical and technical stakeholders to extract and define system requirements, use cases, and priorities on at least 5 projects

  • Create an architectural vision for the technical aspects of a project using one or more technologies

  • Participate in kicking off new projects, inform the implementation team of the project's design, and monitor the progress of a project to ensure that it continues to conform to the overall architecture; partner with management and understand how contributions add value at both the project and team levels

  • Collaborate, build relationships, and shape team members to work toward common goals across function groups

  • Continually develop the customer relationship throughout the sales and delivery life cycle, including knowledge of their business domain, strategic initiatives, technical strategy, and long-term vision

  • Guide customer value through taking a lead role in coordination across stakeholders and implementation teams

  • Serve as a conduit between customers and Red Hat, including sales, solutions architects, technical account managers, Customer

  • Experience and Engagement (CEE) teams, and business teams

Required skills

  • 12+ years of experience working directly with enterprise stakeholders on a range of development and deployment projects

  • 6+ years of experience working as a leading consultant, system architect, or development lead, operating in a senior capacity in the open source community, or equivalent experience

  • Proven record of implementing industry standards and practices as they relate to projects and solutions led by the architect, e.g., Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), TOGAF, Unified Modeling Language (UML), or ArchiMate

  • Solid up-­to­-date understanding of wider trends in IT as they pertain to their area of practice (e.g., agile, DevOps, containerization, and microservices)

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, object-oriented design, development principles including enterprise design patterns, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), API management, DevOps, and mobile development

  • Understanding of Java frameworks and libraries, e.g., Spring, Hibernate, Apache Struts, and Apache Tomcat

  • Advanced Java and architecture experience, including demonstrated architect-level involvement with many aspects of middleware

  • Advanced experience with at least one of the major middleware solutions, preferably Red Hat Middleware or competitive solutions like Oracle WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, webMethods, and TIBCO

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent language skills in English are a plus

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% within China
