Job summary

The Red Hat OpenShift Developer Productivity Engineering team is looking for a skilled Software Engineer with experience in DevOps and site reliability engineering (SRE) with more focus on automation to join us in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will help with the development of the tools needed for the developer productivity team to manage internal services and cloud environments.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Manage developer infrastructure

  • Provide cloud management on various cloud vendors like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or VMware

  • Provide tools, utilities, and documents to help developers be more efficient, including self-service tools for common tasks (provisioning accounts, resetting passwords, etc.)

  • Smoothly onboard new repos into Prow

  • Come up with new tooling ideas and roadmap building for team based on organizational needs

  • Support other teams to achieve their goals like enabling automation, provide continuous integration (CI) enablement for teams, and support tools for internal and external teams

  • Manage user licenses for non-free tools like JetBrains or GoLand

  • Be on rotation and handle tasks that take care of day-to-day incidents and requests that come from the OpenShift team and related teams

  • Spend 10-20% of the time on day-to-day tasks and handle unplanned work and 80% of the time on automation and planned work

Required skills

  • Cloud platform experience working across all supported clouds, mostly at a high level

  • Knowledge of the essential cloud functions and focus on user and resource management; experience in tools other than Amazon Web Services (AWS) is preferred, as we have enough knowledge around AWS already in house

  • Programming experience including languages like Python3, JavaScript, and Bash and tooling, libraries, or frameworks like Docker, Container Linux, Jenkins, Django, PostgreSQL, or MySQL

  • Familiarity with networking technologies like TCP/IP, HTTP, and TLS and basic Linux administration
