Job summary

The Red Hat Finance team is looking for an Accountant to join us in Tokyo, Japan. In this role, you will handle and deliver key duties related to the monthly accounting cycle and yearly tax compliance. You'll be responsible for statutory accounting and tax filing. You will also craft compilations reports for statutory audits and investigate and resolve any problems associated with taxes. As an Accountant, you will work with both internal associates and external agencies like vendors and auditors.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Update the team and other associates about the changes in taxation that may impact the business

  • Extract data and prepare details as required for assessments for both direct and indirect taxation

  • Work closely with the Internal Tax team during assessment for both direct and indirect taxation requirements

  • Discover changes in name, address, directors, etc., and file them to the tax office

  • Perform yearly filing of property tax and business office tax return

  • Coordinate base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS)-related requirements with an external tax consulting company and the Corporate Tax team

  • Facilitate various tax audits by tax authorities

  • Lead statutory accounting and tax-related projects with all stakeholders

  • Deal with various tax-related matters and inquiries from internal and external customers

  • Upload the fixed asset (FA) data monthly to a secondary FA ledger

  • Perform yearly FA reconciliation of GAAP and statutory base

  • Prepare GAAP conversion journal entries

  • Prepare JGAAP trial balance, financial statements, and supplement

  • Take care of corporate income tax and consumption tax (C-Tax)

  • Perform monthly reconciliation of C-Tax accounts

  • Prepare quarterly tax provision and journal entries

  • Coordinate periodical payments of various taxes

  • Provide required information for calculation and submit it to an external tax consulting company

  • Review computation of tax returns prepared by an external tax consulting company

Required skills

  • 3+ years of accounting or tax experience in a multinational company (MNC)

  • Fluent reading and written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in accounting

  • Full or part-qualified accountant with a certification like Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) certification, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze at macro and micro levels

  • Willingness to work extended hours during periods of high demand

  • Ability to work under minimal direct supervision

  • Competent problem-solving and collaboration skills

  • Knowledge of Japanese accounting and tax policies is a plus
