Job summary

The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for an experienced Network Automation Consultant with Red Hat Ansible Automation experience to join our team of open source experts. In this role, you will guide the adoption of Red Hat Ansible Automation for network automation in our key enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners. You'll develop relationships with customer engineering, development, and operations teams by aligning their requirements and use cases with the functional capabilities of our solutions. You'll need to have a thorough working knowledge of and practical experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation, as well as familiarity with Chef, Puppet, and Salt. As a Network Automation Consultant, you will apply your understanding of network device automation, methodologies, and tools and the ways in which these can be applied within a team. You'll serve as a customer advocate to find the right solutions and ensure that these solutions are implemented and supported in a reliable way. This is a remote-based position which can be located anywhere in the United States within close proximity to an airport. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Deliver discovery, analysis, and design workshops for small to medium teams of both technical and non-technical backgrounds

  • Scope delivery projects and guide customers through successful pilot and production deployments

  • Design, create, and deliver content that enables Red Hat to sell, service, and support our cloud solutions at scale

  • Work closely with product, product engineering, consulting, support, and sales teams to ensure an excellent customer experience

  • Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies and tools to scale Red Hat's services capabilities and lower delivery risks

  • Contribute your knowledge and experience back into the wider Red Hat community so that other teams and customers can benefit

  • Travel to work with customers Monday - Thursday out of the week for 30-40 weeks out of the year across the United States

Required skills

  • Excellent understanding of networking fundamentals and campus and datacenter networks

  • Experience working with technologies and protocols including BGP, OSPF, IP Multicast, STP, VPC, MLAG, VRFs, etc.; EVPN or VXLAN experience is a plus

  • Experience with configuration of Cisco or Arista Networks equipment

  • 3+ years of experience with automating network provisioning and configuration tasks using Python, Red Hat Ansible Automation, NAPALM, etc.

  • Experience with large-scale network deployments and automating all or parts of the same

  • Solid desire to code and produce clean readable code; good understanding of software development best practices, open source systems, and Git repositories

  • Excellent technical skills demonstrated in the use of modern methodologies like agile development and DevOps and related capabilities like automation, orchestration, and configuration management

  • Expert technical knowledge of automation tools like Red Hat Ansible Automation, Puppet, and Chef

  • Demonstrated record of working in a strategic advisory role to senior IT and business executives, including extensive experience presenting to C-level executives at large firms

  • Ability to work with distributed cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers

  • Balance of strategic and tactical skills with a high level of creativity and passion for open source software, tooling, and automation

  • Good understanding of security concepts and of hardening of network infrastructure is a big plus

  • Experience with in-band telemetry and streaming telemetry is a big plus

  • Experience with Arista CVP, Cisco DNA, Cisco ACI, etc., is a plus
