Job summary

The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for a software-defined storage engineer to join us as a Software Maintenance Engineer for Red Hat Ceph Storage in North America. In this role, you will help resolve issues for enterprise customers by building high-level technical support and sustaining engineering service capabilities to maximize up-time and reduce IT costs. CEE Global Support Services team is dedicated to resolving issues quickly and efficiently and you can expect to partner closely with development engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community on Red Hat Ceph Storage and container-based storage-related uses. Primary job responsibilities

  • Partner with the Red Hat Ceph Storage development engineering teams to resolve significant customer defects and usability and supportability issues in the software-defined storage field

  • Propose improvements for Red Hat Ceph Storage, Red Hat OpenShift, and related technologies

  • Help lead the support team on enablement and skills programs in the quickly moving technology space of Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage

  • Proactively work alongside consulting and sales teams to provide better support to customers adopting software-defined storage

  • Contribute to the support team directly as an expert on the Red Hat Ceph Storage software storage platform through collaboration on important strategic cases

  • Demonstrate considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions

  • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers

  • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; degree in engineering or computer science is preferred

  • 5+ years of experience as a support or development engineer for software-defined storage, containers, or cloud technologies on Linux

  • Experience operating Linux system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance

  • Experience with network architecture, tcpdump analysis, and storage solutions

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience working with Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms

  • Scripting experience using C, Python, or Ruby

  • Knowledge in application profiling and tuning (perf, strace, ftrace, trace-cmd)

  • Knowledge of Red Hat’s ecosystem, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Satellite, and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform

  • Experience in architecture, design, and implementation of complex networks

  • Experience with configuration management tools like Red Hat Ansible Automation and Puppet

  • Experience with containers

  • Upstream involvement in open source projects, including patches submitted for upstream inclusion

  • Understanding of Red Hat OpenStack Platform Director, heat HOT templating, and YAML-based file formats
