Red Hat Principal Security Engineer - Emerging Technologies in Waterford City, Ireland

The Red Hat Emerging Technologies team within the Office of the CTO is looking for a Principal Software Engineer for security and AI safety related innovation. In this role, you will be involved in the research and productization of new security and AI safety related technologies that will ultimately become part of Red Hat's overall solution portfolio. You'll be responsible for planning, design and prototyping of security projects, working with a variety of stakeholders in open source communities around the world as well as within Red Hat itself.

What you will do

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define and document Red Hat's long-term security technology strategy, which is informed by customers and partners and includes a gap analysis at a level of specificity on which solutions and services engineering and operations can take clear actions

  • Promote alignment on the security technology strategy through working with product management and product engineering to iterate on alignment and promote gaps identified to a close, participating in specific upstream projects and affecting their outcomes, working cross-collaboratively with other engineering organizations and meeting with partners to gather feedback and identify actions that help promote closure

  • Advance, refine and inform the security technology strategy by incubating engineering projects

  • Work to increase external visibility of the portfolio view for Red Hat Security by meeting with customers, partners, press and analysts; speak at conferences and seminars, producing and publicizing collateral

  • Identify upstream communities germane to the success of the Red Hat Security strategy to ensure they have appropriate vitality and level of participation

  • Work with our engineering, legal, security, communications, product, and recruiting teams to turn security related contributions into powerful stories that demonstrate the strength of open source

  • Cultivate our open source presence and reputation in security-related open source organizations, standards bodies and more

What you will bring

  • Extensive experience in enterprise software development with complex system requirements

  • Leadership experience with globally distributed engineering teams and projects

  • Experience with security-related engineering and design

  • Familiarity with tools like OPA Integration with Tekton, Kafka, ArgoCD, and Multi-Cluster, Trusted Execution Environments (Enarx), DevSecOps, and open source secure supply chain

  • Experience with containers, distributed systems and Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with open source communities and open source development

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with customers and community members

The following are considered a plus

  • Experience contributing to the Kubernetes project

  • Experience contributing to projects in Cloud Native Ecosystem

  • Experience using Red Hat OpenShift

  • Relationships in prominent open source communities are a plus

  • Understanding of post-quantum security
