Job summary

The Red Hat Cloud Services Engineering team is looking for an Engineering Manager to join us in Waterford, Ireland. In this role, you will manage a dedicated team of innovative engineers in a fast-moving technology space and guide them through exciting changes in how we collaborate and deliver Red Hat’s products and services to our customers. You will also participate in team planning activities and lead at least one internal project to strengthen management discipline at team level or beyond. As an Engineering Manager, you will also help translate our course of action and goals to the team while supporting the career development of associates reporting to you. Working in a fun and engaging workplace, you will partner and collaborate with other managers in both our and other teams and in open source communities in general to deliver the best possible results.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Serve as a people manager for 10+ associates with the capacity to grow responsibility over time

  • Proven record of accurate scoping and assessment of business and technical requirements with an ability to balance priorities and direct team members accordingly, leading to fulfillment and delivery of communicated goals, projects, and technical roadmaps

  • Work closely with senior members of our Engineering, Operations, Quality Engineering (QE), Documentation, Support, Security, and Marketing and Product Management teams to track project deliverables

  • Build and retain a great team while overseeing the career development and coaching of associates

  • Serve as an advocate for Red Hat’s solutions and technologies

  • Identify opportunities to improve, mentor, or train your team’s technical skill set

Required skills

  • 5-8 years of experience as a people manager or team lead in a previous technical role

  • Ability to learn new technologies, understand technical requirements, and communicate with authorities at a technical level, either in written form or via presentations

  • Practical experience working with agile methodologies in a software engineering capacity

  • Keen interest in open source and building communities

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to present at conferences or to customers, partners, and other stakeholders

  • Ability to work on your own or with geographically distributed teams and agile teams

  • Ability to make complex decisions and lead teams to agreement

  • Proven ability to discreetly handle challenging personnel issues
