Job summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in Waterford or Dublin or Cork in Ireland. In this role, you'll enjoy a fun and engaging workplace with the opportunity to collaborate openly with a group of dynamic and diverse agile teams working around the world to create value for our customers and partners in an open source way. You will be working with a wide range of modern languages, frameworks, and technologies including Node.js, Golang, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and Red Hat’s extensive portfolio of cloud-native middleware offerings. This is a 6 month fixed-term contract, may be extended further.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Be responsible for contributions to a technical environment, including coding, automating, testing, documentation, and architecture

  • Work closely with members of our Engineering, Operations, Quality Engineering (QE), Documentation, and Product Management teams

  • Assist with the planning, fulfillment, and delivery of communicated goals and projects

  • Contribute to open source projects

  • Serve as an advocate for Red Hat’s solutions and technologies

  • Work in and communicate with distributed teams

Required skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer in a modern development environment, with a primary focus on either Node.js, Golang, Python, or Java

  • Experience with automation and DevOps continuous integration (CI) and delivery (CD) tool kits like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, and Jenkins

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies, frameworks, and techniques

  • Ability to facilitate technical conversations within your team and with external stakeholders

  • Keen interest in open source; proven record of contributing to and building of open source communities

  • Ability to work both on your own and as part of an agile team

  • Knowledge of system administration tools and technologies in a Linux environment is a plus

Any commercial experience with the following technologies is a plus:

  • Containerization technologies like Kubernetes, Apache Mesos, Docker, and lxc-cgroups

  • Virtualization and public cloud services like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Security frameworks like OWASP or Snyk

  • Mobile Development with iOS, Android, or Apache Cordova
